Grandview man, 24, faces felony charges after firing into Westport crowd of people

A 24-year-old Grandview man faces multiple felonies after he reportedly fired shots into a crowd in Westport early today, injuring two persons, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

In addition, a second man faces a felony for possessing a weapon during the shooting even though he is a felon prohibited from carrying a weapon.

Davontae Mccutchen, dob: 12/19/1993, faces two counts of Assault 2nd Degree, two counts of Armed Criminal Action and Resisting Arrest.*

According to court records filed today, an off-duty Kansas City police officer, shortly after 2 a.m. today, observed the defendant pull a handgun from his waistband and fire shots into a crowd of about 50 to 60 persons in the Westport area of Kansas City. The officer pursued the defendant, who dropped the gun during the chase. A video of the incident showed the defendant with a gun running from police.   

Anthony D. Boykin, dob: 8/26/1991, a second defendant who was standing near Mccutchen at the time of the shooting, was also observed by an officer to have a gun in his waistband. Police alerted Westport Public Safety who chased Boykin. He dropped the gun during the chase. Boykin, who was convicted of the felony Robbery 1st Degree, and is prohibited with possessing a weapon. He was charged today with Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Prosecutors requested a bond of $100,000 cash for Mccutchen and $50,000 cash for Boykin.
