A 29-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man has been charged with assault in connection with a reported serious beating of a 5-year-old boy on Sunday, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peter Baker announced today.

Misipope Taliga, dob: 5/13/1987, faces Domestic Assault in the First Degree.*

According to court records filed today, Kansas City police, responding to an area near 20th and Topping Avenue in Kansas City on a reported injury of a 5-year-old boy, found paramedics treating the child. Witnesses told police that the defendant had struck the child in the home. Police found blood inside. The defendant said he saw the child struck by a car outside, then brought him inside. The child was being treated for injuries at Children's Mercy Hospital.

Prosecutors requested a bond of $200,000. The case remains under investigation.
