An accused serial rapist linked by DNA to at least five sexual assaults of women in New Orleans now faces multiple felony charges here in connection with three sexual assaults from 2004, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Daniel Meridy, dob 3/21/1984, faces three counts of Kidnapping, nine counts of Armed Criminal Action, four counts of Forcible Rape, Sodomy and Sexual Abuse.*
On Tuesday, the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office filed and Information in Lieu of Indictment, naming Meridy as the defendant in three sexual assaults from 2004. In 2007, the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office filed a criminal case naming "John Doe," who had been identified only by DNA profile. After Meridy was taken into custody in connection with sexual assaults in New Orleans, his DNA was matched to the DNA profile in the 2007 case filed here.
According to court records, the sexual assaults involved women who were in the area of 38th and Troost, Armour and Troost and the 3900 block of Flora.
Victims in the case filed against Meridy here were recently contacted. Meridy remains in custody in New Orleans. Prosecutors in each jurisdiction will confer regarding next steps on the cases in each jurisdiction.
