A Kansas City man, who was arrested recently on unrelated charges in Iowa, faces charges in connection with the Sept. 10, 2019, fatal shooting of Dajuan M. Reese and Rance Burton during an attempted robbery in a residence in the 7900 block of Machester Avenue in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Kevin D. Dean, dob: 5/10/1991, faces two counts of Murder 2nd Degree, three counts of Armed Criminal Action, Attempted Robbery 1st Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.*
According to court records filed today, Kansas City Police officers responded to an apartment building in the 7900 block of Manchester Avenue. Witnesses told police that Reese answered the door and became involved in a confrontation with Burton. Shots were fired. A second armed suspect came in with Burton, witnesses told police. Witnesses said Burton had been with a suspect known as ’40’ and a phone contact for a person known as ’40’ was found in the Burton’s phone. The defendant was developed as a person associated with the phone number. A witness, shown a photo of the defendant, told police she last saw the defendant with Burton on the night of the homicide.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $400,000 cash.
