A 22-year-old Kansas City man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident in connection with the January 2017 fatal vehicular crash in Northeast Kansas City that took the life of 35-year-old mother Shaymaa Saudi, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Juan L. Sanchez, dob: 3/11/1996, pleaded Wednesday to Involuntary Manslaughter in the 1st Degree, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, Assault in the 1st Degree, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.*
According to court records filed today, the husband of the victim was in an altercation with Juan L. Sanchez on St. John Avenue before the defendant, in his truck, began to chase the victim, who was driving a Dodge with a 4-year-old child in the backseat. During the chase, the vehicle driven by Sanchez tapped or hit the vehicle driven by the victim, Saudi, (dob: 10/16/1981) and it lost control. Witnesses said near St. John and Askew the victim’s vehicle hit a utility pole, killing Saudi. Sanchez parked the car near a family member’s house, took off the license plates and put a tarp over it.
Sanchez will be sentenced on Oct. 19, 2018 in Division 9.
