A Kansas City teenager has been charged in the fatal Grandview shooting of 16-year-old Tyson White, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Ja'quann L. McCarver, 2/26/2000, faces Unlawful Use of a Weapon, two counts of Armed Criminal Action and Murder 2nd Degree.*
According to court records, the defendant told Grandview police that he met the victim in the area of 119th and Holiday in Grandview, MO, after the victim asked him to get a gun for the victim's protection. When the victim met the defendant to give him money for the gun, the defendant stated, that he decided to keep the gun and take the money. The victim left the vehicle where they had met and the defendant said he fired a shot at the victim. Police found the victim outside with a fatal gunshot wound.
PC will be amended to say defendant said he did not intend to kill victim.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $100,000 cash.
