A 20-year-old Kansas City man has been charged for robbery of a Blue Springs man who had come to Independence to meet the robber's accomplice, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
David A. Williams, 11/27/1997, faces Robbery 1st Degree, a Class A felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison, and Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, the victim arranged to meet an accomplice of the the defendant in Independence. When they met near Maple and Willis, the defendant robbed him at gunpoint of his vehicle. During the robbery, Williams fired a single shot, narrowly missing the victim but possibly striking his juvenile accomplice, who was later treated at a hospital. The defendant told police that he and his female accomplice met the victim and intended to rob him. After the gun fired, the defendant took the victim's car.
Prosecutors requested a $50,000 bond.
