Two Kansas City men have been charged in the robbery on Wednesday of a residence in the area of 23rd and Delaware in Independence, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Joseph E. Wyatt, dob: 1/07/1989, and Ronar Santiago-Torres, 4/14/1989, each face Robbery 1st Degree, Armed Criminal Action, Burglary 1st Degree and Kidnapping.*
According to court records, Wyatt and Santiago-Torres drove through a closed garage door at a residence in the area of 36th and Denver and fled from police responding to calls for service at the residence. Wyatt was found in possession of a handgun when the two suspects were taken into custody later at 23rd and Cedar. A friend of the victim called police when she observed unusual activity via a remote video fee of the victim's residence. One suspect admitted to going to the residence to rob the victim and restraining and holding him at gunpoint. They repeatedly struck the victim and when they heard police sirens they stole the victim's car and fled police.
This case remains under investigation and others charges may be forthcoming.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $500,000 cash for each defendant.
