A Kansas City man has been charged in the July 13, 2023, fatal shooting of a man behind an office supply store on Main Street in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Dynell R. Jones faces Murder 2nd Degree, two counts of Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.*
According to court records, police officers were alerted on the afternoon of July 13, 2023, by a woman driving on Linwood, near Troost Avenue, to a shooting behind a parking lot off Main Street. The victim was transported to an area hospital but died of his injuries. Officers located shell casings in an area adjacent to the parking lot. A witness told police she saw a man with a gun about the time the victim got back into the witness' vehicle, and then the witness heard gunfire. As the witness left the area, she saw the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his face. The defendant told police he fired in the direction of the vehicle in which the victim was passenger to scare off the victim.
