.A Jackson County jury today convicted a Kansas City woman for severely beating a child while the child was in her care in a Kansas City residence, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Nancy Russell, dob: 12/1/1982, was found guilty of two Class A felonies of Domstic Assault 1st Degree and two Class B felonies of Domestic Assault 1st Degree and found counts of Armed Criminal Action. The defendant will be sentenced at a future hearing.
According to court records, in October 2017, police in Kansas City were alerted by Arkansas police of possible child abuse. A family member had come forward to say that one of the children had been abused at a home in Kansas City in the area of 53rd and Hardesty. The child was reportedly walking with a limp and had gashes on the head. Forensic interviews in Arkansas disclosed the defendant struck the child with a cord and metal pipe.
