A Jackson County jury on Friday convicts Kansas City man, 37, in fatal shooting of Michael Utley in Kansas City in March 2021, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Brandon Pritchard, dob: 9/9/1985, was convicted of Voluntary Manslaughter, Armed Criminal Action and Burglary 1st Degree.
Pritchard will be sentenced at a future sentencing hearing. Because he's a persistent offender, the defendant the Voluntary Manslaughter and Burglary 1st Degree convictions will be sentenced as A felonies..
According to court records, Kansas City police officers were dispatched to the 400 block of White Avenue on March 21, 2021. Officers found the victim, Utley, deceased from gunshot wounds on the floor of the front foyer. Witnesses told police that defendant showed up at the home on White and entered and yelled in a threatening way. When the victim went downstairs to confront the defendant, the defendant shot him.
Assistant Prosecutors Daniel Portnoy and Andrea Herron prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of Missouri.
