The elected prosecutors in Jackson County, MO, Wyandotte County, Kan., and Phladelphia, Penn., have challenged each other in a friendly wager over Super Bowl LVII, in which the Kansas City Chiefs square off against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, District Attorney Mark A Dupree Sr of Wyandotte County and Philly DA Larry Krasner have agreed to send each other items from local and Black-owned busineses in their cities, as well as their team's gear. The gear will be worn by the DA of the losing team in an upcoming community event or day of service. Among the items sent by Jackson County: Black Drip coffee and Christopher Elbow chocolates.
"The Eagles are a great team," said Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker. "Look at their record. They're 14-3. But years from now America will remember cheering the Chiefs to victory in Super Bowl LVII. DA Dupree is with me. By game's end, we'll be saying, "How 'bout those Chiefs!"
Krasner issued a statement: "Philadelphia is the home of the Declaration of Independence, the Rocky statue and the best starting quarterback in the NFL, Jale Hurts. On a scale of 1 to 10, I feel 💯💯💯 about the Eagles' chances against Kansas City -- with the caveat that any team led by former Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid will be a formidable and worthy opponent."
DA Dupree differed: "Though my esteemed friend Larry Krasner may indeed know how to administer justice in the courtroom, he is woefully misguided in his thinking concerning the Super Bowl. It will be a good game for three quarters, then the Chiefs will remind the football world, yet again, they are the best thing since KC-style barbecue!"
"Speaking of barbecue, you can savor, delight and lick your fingers with our delectable offering....you can't do that with a Rocky statue!..."
Baker announced that her office will commit to a day of service at a local service agency. The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office day of service will be at Hope Faith Homeless Assistance Center in the Downtown area. The office has agreed to do this day of service no matter the outcome of the Super Bowl.
