A Jackson County jury today convicted a Kansas City man in the fatal shooting in April 2020 of Damen Taylor on East 39th Street in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
The jury convicted Caylon D. Dudley, dob: 8/1/1995, of Voluntary Manslaughter and Armed Criminal Action.* A Jackson County judge will sentence Dudley at a future hearing.
According to court records, Kansas City police responded to the area of the 9400 block of East 39th on a reported shooting. A victim had been transported from there to a hospital. Police found numerous witnesses who reported a fight between two males resulted in one of the males shooting the other. Police recovered a video that showed the individuals involved and the defendant was identified. The suspect told police he was in a fight and pulled the weapon after the victim came out of a residence and started hitting his brother. He fired, striking the victim Damen Taylor.
