A 62-year-old homeless man has been charged in connection with an October 2006 sexual assault and rape on Kansas City’s west side, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Samuel Flores, dob: 9/11/1952, faces Forcible Rape and Sexual Assault.*
According to court records, on the evening of Oct. 29, 2006, a 29-year-old woman was at a restaurant on Southwest Boulevard in Kansas City. She was intoxicated when she left the restaurant to look for a companion. She misplaced her cell phone and asked someone to use a phone. She awoke in an unknown car parked behind Margarita’s in the 2800 block of Southwest Boulevard. A man was having sex with her. She struggled with him until he left. She went inside to report the rape and call police. Testing identified a DNA profile and in January that profile was matched to Samuel Flores.
A case was filed in 2009 against “John Doe 27,” citing the DNA profile of the suspect in the Oct. 29, 2006 assault. In February, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office amended that complaint naming Flores, who recently was taken into custody.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000.
