A Kansas City man and woman have been charged in connection with the New Year’s Day 2016 murder of Sederick J. Jones and the wounding of another person, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Ramon D. Boyd, 8/28/1986, of Kansas City, and Destynie J. Wright, dob: 2/28/1997, face Murder in the 2nd Degree, Assault in the 1st Degree and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, Jones’ body was located in a parking lot in the 5200 block of E. 112th Terrace, as well as a woman suffering from gunshot wounds, about 2:49 a.m. on New Year’s Day 2016. Witnesses told police that following a New Year’s Eve party at the location, an event hall. Later, police located a vehicle with blood on the exterior. It was in possession of Wright. Wright said she was with her female friend, the woman found shot in the parking lot. The victim was resisting leaving the scene with Jones, but Jones didn’t threaten or display a weapon. She said if she felt threatened by Jones she would have called police. But Wright communicated by phone with her boyfriend, according to texts obtained by police with a search warrant from Wright to Boyd, her boyfriend. Wright urged Boyd to get to the scene to deal with Jones. Cell data indicated Boyd’s cell phone was in the area of the shooting about the time of the murder.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $250,000 cash for each defendant.
