A second Kansas City man has been charged in the fatal shooting of Andrew L. Holmes on Sept. 13, 2017, at Troost Market in South Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Gerry Strickland, dob: 7/11/1989, faces Murder in the 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, Kansas City police responded to the Troost Market, 8001 Troost Avenue, on reports of gunshots. They found the victim, Andrew Holmes, unresponsive in the parking lot near gas pumps. He later died of his injuries. Surveillance video from Troost Market showed a white four-door sedan and damage on a left fender parked in the parking lot at the gas pumps. The video showed a passenger in the white vehicle exit carrying a handgun in his right hand. He then fires the weapon toward the victim, who is sitting in the driver's seat of his vehicle. The shooter then flees on foot. A witness was coming to Troost Market to meet the victim. When she pulled into the parking lot she saw the suspect in a white t-shirt and jeans shooting at the victim's vehicle. She then followed the shooter, as he walked away. She continued until he displayed his handgun by lifting his shirt and showing it in his waistband. A witness told police that Strickland was the passenger in the white vehicle. The owner of the vehicle told police that Strickland the white vehicle the day of the shooting. If he is using the vehicle, she told police, Dante Oliver is usually with him.
Oliver was charged last week in the homicide.
Prosecutors requested that the bond be set at $250,000 for Strickland, who already is in custody on a $50,000 bond.
