A Jackson County jury today convicted Victor D. Vickers in the fatal shooting of Edward Ewing and the wounding of another victim in a 2011 home invasion, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced.
The jury convicted Vickers of Murder in the 1st Degree, Assault in the 1st Degree and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.
Vickers will be sentenced on July 15, 2016.
A co-defendant in the case, Garron Briggs, already has been sentenced to life in prison.
According to court records, Vickers, Briggs and another suspect forced one victim to unlock the door. They forced her to lie on the floor and they searched the house, asking to locate the "stuff." Briggs shot the woman, who lay still and listened to them to continue to search the residence. She heard gun shots from the bedroom where Ewing had been asleep. When the intruders left the home, she called police.
Chief Trial Assistant Bryan Covinsky and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kristin Ries prosecuted the case for the state of Missouri.
